I Tried It: Kendall Jenner's Frozen Watermelon Margarita

I’m a sucker for celebrity brands. They fascinate me and I always want to see if they are worth the hype. Especially because, as someone who utilizes human behavior in their job, I love trying to figure out why they ventured into this. I’ve tried everything from George Clooney’s Tequila to John Legend’s rosé. For the longest time, Casamigos was my go-to tequila. If it was on the menu and I wanted a margarita, it was the one I got (Looking at you airport bar!) But then 818 entered my life and nothing has been the same. It is delicious, smooth, and makes one hell of a margarita. I’ve had this recipe on Poosh bookmarked for quite a while and thought this weekend while binging Love Island would be the perfect opportunity to make it. So I ran to the grocery, grabbed my bestie, and got to blending.

The Verdict:

The margarita is as delicious as it is dangerous. At first, we were a little unsure about the consistency because we are typically on the rocks margarita girls and it just seemed a little too liquidity. However, when we added more ice we nearly overflowed the blender and gave up. Thankfully doing some sleuthing on the internet, we saw videos where we learned we actually nailed the consistency. We. Were. Stoked. I also realized I had missed the part in Poosh’s post about freezing the watermelon overnight of a more slushie consistency. I might try that next time, but it turned out pretty great regardless. Now, I must say the reason I note it is dangerous is that it is refreshing. Given you can really alter the ingredients to suit your tastes it can get you in a bit of trouble. We followed her recipe exactly (with an extra shot of tequila for good luck), and it was refreshing and tasty. This is where that noted danger comes in. If you’re not careful you’ll drink it pretty darn fast.

For a summer day, it was a damn fine choice and I would absolutely make it again. I forgot to purchase a new margarita salt, but when I make it again, I would definitely add a tasty salted Tajin rim. There ended up being a bit more servings than the Poosh recipe mentioned, but sharing with two people we were able to get a pretty good buzz, enjoyed every drop, and had plenty of Love Island commentary to go around (Luca what are you doing?!?!?!??!!).

10/10 - Would make again. Perfect for a pool day or warm summer day

Recipe (Via Poosh):

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup 818 Tequila

  • 1/8 Cup orange liqueur (I used Cointreau)

  • 4-5 cups chopped watermelon

  • 1/4 cup agave nectar

  • 1/4 cup lime juice

  • Ice as needed

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients into the blender

  2. Blend on high until smooth and slushie adding more ice as needed

  3. Serve in a salt-rimmed glass with a lime wedge and lime zest for garnish

Made With:

Kris Jenner’s Famous Layered Dip

Keeping the Poosh recipe day going, I also made Kris Jenner’s Famous Layer Dip which I made many years ago, and did a post on. This dip is truly delicious. It’s essentially 7 layer dip without the beans, but that’s kinda what makes it great. It’s still super filling without the added bulk of the beans. Another thing I love about this dip is mixing the salsa and avocado together. At first, I was very unsure especially because the recipe calls it guacamole and it just seems off. But I will tell you this is essential because the worst part about layered dips is when the wetter layers mess up the party for everyone else. As someone who doesn’t love super chunky salsa and would rather use my favorite fire-roasted tomato this step is a dip lifesaver. Do not skip it. Don’t even question it. And not just because Kris Jenner says so. The dip is famous for a reason. Don’t try to go your own way on this one.
