All the Best: Sh*t On Toast

Over the summer I did a stay at one of my favorite local hotels and the restaurant inside has gotten a serious makeover over the past few years. During my stay, I went down to that very restaurant and practically lived off their toast portion of the menu. Something, which in hindsight isn’t good for my health, but was way too incredible to pass up. Fast forward to today and I’m still thinking about the toast. There is something to be said about a good old-fashioned piece of toast. No longer is toast just the crunchy white sandwich bread I was forced to eat when feeling icky or having breakfast at a diner. Of course, avocado toast has been popular for a while and if you ask anyone over 50 is the main reason millennials, like myself, can’t buy a home. But before I get carried away arguing that, I will hands down enjoy a good piece of toast any day of the week. In fact, I’ve even been considering trying to recreate my beloved hotel cafe toast - at home.

Even my favorite cookbooks have entire sections dedicated to these delicious little nuggets. They can be savory or sweet - all that matters is that they begin with a good quality piece of bread. Sometimes when I’m not feeling like making a big production out of dinner, I’ll toss together a quick salad and a side of toasted sourdough with roasted tomatoes, goat cheese, and some olive oil and basil. It hits the spot every time. But in my quest to show appreciation for this humble kitchen table warrior, I went in search of some of the yummiest looking toasts I could find. Everything from classic avocado to sweet fruit and some more fun combinations. Check out all the recipes that caught my eye below and hopefully in the near future, I’ll work out just how to make that dream toast I mentioned at home.
