Recipe Roundup: Mediterranean Munchies

If there is one thing I love it’s a good meal reminiscent of the Mediterranean. I mean just gives the vibes of soaking up the sun on a picturesque coast with a gentle breeze carrying the aromas of fresh herbs and the sea. Being Italian, Mediterranean foods have always been a staple in my life and as I’ve grown older I’ve been able to expand my palette to enjoy much more of the region’s diverse cultures and tapestry of vibrant flavors. Funny enough, when it comes to Mediterranean food, it’s not all about delicious food. The Mediterranean Diet, based on the traditional eating habits of the countries bordering the sea, has been proven time and time again to have incredible health benefits.

Flavor + Balance

Staples of Mediterranean cuisine are fresh seasonal ingredients like sun-ripened tomatoes, olives, fragrant herbs, creamy cheeses, and an abundance of yummy vegetables. Olive oil is a cornerstone and adds a richness to meals - I think it’s honestly the one ingredient I have to buy in barrels! Eating the Mediterranean way is more than just following a recipe, it’s a way of life. It’s all about fresh, minimally processed foods, and enjoying meals with loved ones. Of course, there is the occassional glass of wine which adds to the enjoyment and sense of community of having a delicious meal with others. Research has suggested that embracing a diet along Mediterranean lines can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and even cognitive decline - something that sounds just alright with me.
