MIX NO. 49 // A VERY VINTAGE HALLOWEEN
This year’s Halloween mix is a bit of a far cry from Halloween’s past. It was inspired by a couple of things. First off, I love spending Spooky Season watching spooky, creepy, etc movies. Who doesn’t? I always aim to watch at least one I haven’t seen ever each year although I will watch the Halloween movies for hours on end. Thanks, AMC. One movie I watch from time to time is the 1958 sci-fi classic, The Blob, whose catchy earworm of an opening credits song inspired this playlist. The second inspiration was an older Halloween playlist that came across one of my social feeds from one of the Blog Radio hosts whose show often features older, obscure tunes like these.
Being inspired to change things up, I went on the hunt for all of the coolest vintage Halloween-y tunes I could. A lot of them have a rockabilly vibe and others are more…what if Eddie Munster was into surf rock. Which is just a thought I love. The sound of the playlist honestly reminds me of one of the Halloween nights I spent out at a local bar. I love my typical indie, low-fi spooky mixes but I just couldn’t get in the mood every time I sat down to work on it. There is still some time before Halloween so maybe I’ll get inspired?
This playlist, on the other hand, just feels made for enjoying some sort of vintage cocktail, in a living room dance party while wearing some cute outfit with an unfortunate plastic mask (Have you seen Halloween masks from the 50s and 60s?!?!). If this is your vibe, enjoy! If not you can find the usual spooky mixes on my Spotify.
Have an idea for a monthly mix? Drop me a line.
