Fall Outfits Inspired By (Some) of My Favorite Fall Movies

It might be just me, but every fall there are just some movies I instinctively want to watch. Like I know exactly when I’ll cue up Breakfast at Tiffany’s and You’ve Got Mail. It’s almost a seasonal ritual for me. It’s almost like watching Christmas movies during the holidays or scary movies around Halloween. There are plenty of great fall time movies out there, but what about ones with stylish characters that can give one outfit inspo for days? I’ve seen other people do posts similar to this one and thought why not toss my hat into the figurative ring.

Gathering inspiration from those posts and my own watching habits I found a few outfits that could easily still be worn today…with a few teaks here or there. I think these outfits still resonate today because some of them are classic. They use fall wardrobe staples that can be worn year after year with little effort or thought. Many of them recall trends of the current day whether it’s being more on the preppy side or the ever-popular lug soles. These looks can be adapted to nearly anyone’s style with their own tweaks and twists which is another reason these fall films have plenty of outfit inspo.

YOU’VE GOT MAIL

I picked this look previously in a Meg Ryan post everyone really liked so I knew it was worth a quick update. The looks from You’ve Got Mail are just perfectly fall and there are so many worth recreating, but this one is one of my favorites.

HALLOWEEN

Now, to be fair, a classic horror movie isn’t exactly where style shines. But I’ve always loved this Laurie Strode look even if, well…you know the rest. One good thing about this look is the 70s vibe is easy to replicate today. No need for skinny jeans!

(500) DAYS OF SUMMER

If you’re looking for preppy fall outfits, look no further than Summer Finn. Her style is a bit girly but perfectly put together. And I won’t hesitate to admit this film inspired many of my outfits when I started college.

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY

This one is another of the outfits I featured in the Meg Ryan style post that gets a lot of attention. Who can resist a nice turtleneck and the perfect shade of cranberry?

THE CRAFT

A bit edgier than the other outfits featured here but the perfect effortlessly rebellious 90s combo. An iconic movie with a witchy style that still holds up today.

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S

This look, and many of the others, is iconic as is the film, and it could be worn anywhere at any time and still look incredible. That is how you know it is truly a classic outfit and you can’t go wrong replicating it. And, if anything, it makes a great Halloween costume.
