MIX NO. 23 // WARM WEATHER & WINDOWS DOWN

Whether I like it or not, 90 degree temperatures have arrived here in Arizona. I won’t lie, it’s kind of a bummer. For someone whose lived here my entire life I can’t stand the heat. And, despite what literally everyone says, you don’t get used to it. I truly appreciate any day I don’t get sun poisoning from spending more than 1 hour outside. But as much as I despise the blah warm days, there is one thing I do enjoy: driving with my windows down.

Even just going across town there is something freeing about my hair blowing in the breeze. There is the smell of all the damp grass and flowers which will no doubt cause my allergies to spike within a matter of minutes. Plus, there is my beloved beautiful mountain scenery in Central and North Phoenix (Sorry Rachael, I know you mock me. Every. Time.) that just makes for a movie perfect desert drive. Over the years I’ve crafted a pretty distinct soundtrack for spring/summer drives. It’s kind of my homage to what a beach drive playlist would be since, well, we don’t have beaches. This sound just kinda developed over the type of music I gravitate toward when it gets warmer as opposed to the indie folk i typically find myself listening to over fall and winter. Obviously more upbeat. It also doesn’t hurt that my first car didn’t have air conditioning…so when you’re kind forced to have your windows down, you just kinda…adapt. The music sounds better that way anyway.

I think this one is a little longer than normal but someone requested they be a little longer so why not? With the very first 90 degree temperatures arriving I thought I would share my little warm weather playlist after finally getting it all in one place. Even if you don’t have a great desert mountain drive, I’m sure it will still suit your spring drive around whereabouts you live. Consider it this year’s Spring Break mix.
