Trend Report: Barbiecore
Barbiecore is the latest aesthetic taking the internet by storm. Yes, everyone’s favorite doll is taking charge right now and it is everything. Barbiecore isn’t exactly new, but the name sure is. Pink has been a central part of runways and collections for years. Of course, the avalanche seemed to have started with the attention of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming movie has been getting. But pink is everywhere right now and not just pink but bright, neon, and fuchsia pink. It’s been everywhere from runways of Valentino and Balenciaga to street style. And the best part is, it’s not just a trend ready for celebrities. In fact, internet search data shows an increase in searches for pink mini dresses, swimsuits, and Barbie outfits.
What I love most about Barbiecore is just how fun it is. I love neon to begin with. Maybe it’s being a child of the 80s and early 90s where neon ran rampant. I had so much neon day-glow and even ended up getting sent home from school for an allergic reaction to my neon hoop earrings on Halloween. So it’s not really a surprise I would love any trend that is bright, fun, and exciting. It’s also the complete opposite of my normal monochromatic wardrobe. One of the best things about Barbiecore is being able to embrace as much or as little as your individual style wants. Just looking online there are no signs pink is slowing down anytime soon, and I, for one, am pretty excited all the pink I’ve gotten lately won’t be going to waste, ha!
