Four Fun Things: 90s Nostalgia
It feels like the 90s just ended 5 minutes ago, but everywhere I look there's some trend or reference reappearing for better or worse. I've even seen articles about millennial's being affected by early on-set nostalgia because of this incredibly close wave of brands resurfacing or bringing back bygone products and mascots. Hamburgler Hipster Dad anyone? I know there are plenty of things from the 1990s I would love to forget about, but here I am reliving my youth whether I want to or not. So after a strange Double Dare-centric conversation with my sister, here are 4 fun things for optimal 90s nostalgia.
It was announced just yesterday Double Dare would be returning for 40 episodes this summer on Nickelodeon. Too bad their former audience is too old to compete on the show now. This adds to the wave of 90s shows returning to television like Murphy Brown, Roseanne, and everyone's favorite game show: Supermarket Sweep. 10 Things I Hate About You is a true teen movie classic. It has everything; personality conflicts between siblings, applying to college, going to the prom, dating and so much more. It's a wonderful glimpse into life pre-social media and dating apps. A time when everyone shopped at Contempo Casuals, the precursor to Forever 21. I love this movie and it's always worth revisiting to escape adult life.
If podcasts are more your jam, check out Teen Creeps. Of course, this week they did Baby-Sitter's Club Super Mystery #1 with special guest Alice Wetterlund. This hilarious podcast digs into the young adult fiction. This episode attempts to answer the important questions you didn't even know you needed answers to like is Logan actually 19? What is in the water in Stoneybrook that makes these kids think they have to do everything including a dinner party? And most importantly, what exactly is this ambulance fundraiser and why is everyone obsessed with it? Listen here.
Embracing 90s fashion trends is sometimes hard to do. Probably because I feel like I just stopped wearing them. Part of me also wishes I kept my entire Tommy Jeans collection from 7th grade because they would be of great use now. Hello, vintage. This Harper's Bazaar article about the cringe-worthy trends is on point. There's just so many I can't embrace. I'm talking about you dad sneakers, visors, and fanny packs.
