With the Royal Wedding happening in just weeks, everyone has been talking about America's Princess, Meghan Markle. But that got me thinking about the original American Princess, Grace Kelly. Grace Kelly has a timeless style that can still be embraced today without seeming like a costume. That's one of the main reasons I consider her one of my style icons. We have a very similar classic, simple, but chic and comfortable personal style. In 2018 it's pretty hard to pull off a full Grace Kelly look without looking and feeling like a time traveler, but there are many ways to channel the iconic starlet in everyday fashion.

Grace Kelly graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts at age 19 and has worked with the likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Gary Cooper, and Clark Gable. She won a Best Actress Academy Award in 1955 for her work in Country Girl. Grace Kelly became Princess of Monaco in 1956 after marrying Prince Rainer at the age of 26. It was called the Wedding of the Century, and her dress has become one of the most famous wedding dresses of all time. Grace Kelly died in a car crash in 1982, but her legacy lives on through her films and her style.

Grace had a timeless, elegant and classy aesthetic. In fact, her simplicity is what makes her such a great fashion icon. There are many ways to channel Grace in 2018. She had many signature pieces that aren't too far out of place today. She never went anywhere without her tortoiseshell sunglasses. She often wore candy colored coats similar to the popular pastels trendy right now.

Grace Kelly was never far from her signature Hermes bag. The bag was first introduced to Kelly and the world through the Hitchcock film To Catch a Thief. She famously used the bag to cover up her pregnancy. She used it so often the fashion house changed the name to Kelly in 1977 to honor her. It has become one of the most desired and popular handbags in the world. Although the price has gone up significantly it remains one of their best sellers.

Another way to channel Grace is to borrow from the boys. Menswear-inspired looks have been in fashion for the last few years. The trick is to embrace feminine touches and silhouettes on typical menswear. This means cuffing sleeves and tucking button-ups in to show off the waist. Keep it casual. Button-ups and ankle revealing trousers were one of her favorite downtime pairings. Her personal style was much more comfortable and laid back than glamorous.

Always accessorize like a lady. Dainty, simple accessories are the way to go. Grace Kelly rarely ever was seen without her tortoiseshell sunglasses. Luckily they are a very popular modern day option. Pearls may seem like a very dated choice, but when done well won't seem like grandma's jewelry box has been raided. Simple pearl studs will definitely do the trick. Grace Kelly had a signature red lip using Dior Rouge, her favorite lipstick.

Grace Kelly has cemented her place as a Style Icon especially to me. I love her simple but elegant touches that almost feel effortless. While I don't have a Kelly bag and probably never will, I still think her style has influenced me quite a lot in my lifetime in other ways. Even the simplest touches can help anyone channel Princess Grace.
