My Winter Essentials

I will admit while writing this I feel like a bit of a jerk. You see, a large portion of the country is currently being held captive by a Polar Vortex. A vortex creating below 0 degree temperatures I can’t even begin to imagine. Temperatures that are literally freezing Lake Michigan. Meanwhile, here in sunny Phoenix, Arizona it is a nice, mild 75 degrees. Although we are anticipating a few days where there is a slight chance of rain. I much prefer weather stuck smack dab in the middle. I hate 100+ degree days and, as i mentioned, I don’t know what I would even do with below 0 (and wind chill). The coldest it’s been this winter is about 32 which is considered freezing by Arizona standards. I’m talking cover your plans and pipes freezing.

Enough about the weather. What am I? Some kind of meteorologist now? Welcome to my weather blog. No. But I will say over the years I’ve crafted what I consider to be winter essentials. The wardrobe essentials that get me through the chillier 3 months of the year. The pieces that I can routinely revisit year after year that keep me warm and toasty. The thing about my essentials is how they almost become a uniform all in themselves. Talk about making getting dressed easier when I’d rather be in bed.

  • I have a go-to black turtleneck that I can easily toss on with jeans. It’s a simple but put together look that keeps me warm from top to bottom.

  • Layering tees because when I get dressed in the morning it may be cold, but, like today, as soon as noon hits, the sun is beating down. Better to remove layers than get overheated in a split second.

  • Leather jackets are classic and a closet staple. Some nights it’s not cold enough for a coat, so I grab for my trusty leather jacket. It also spices up any basic outfit I may be rocking.

  • I love my knee high boots. They add an extra element to my outfits and make my jeans look anything but boring. Not to mention they can be pretty darn warm on cold evenings.

  • I can’t even count how many pullover sweaters I own. I love the simplicity of throwing on a sweater with jeans, black pants, or even leggings. They are comfortable and can be dressed up when needed.

  • A coat…lovely coats. Rarely is a coat needed in Arizona, but this winter has been exceptionally cold. I think I’ve worn a coat pretty much every morning. It almost begins to feel like a second skin.
