Treat Yourself for Valentine's Day
I hate to be the bearer of obvious, sad news but Valentine’s Day is coming up. I know. It sucks. I have very conflicted feelings about Valentine’s Day. Growing up my parents never made Valentine’s Day a thing. Sometimes boxes of heart shaped chocolates and Sweet-Tart hearts (the only few times a year these candies exist) would show up. We would reluctantly participate in those school parties where we would pass around incredibly forward valentines to everyone in the class. But it was never a big deal. I think even as an adult I never cared for it much. All the hearts and pressure on people seems like a bit much. But, maybe, that’s because I’ve never truly had a Valentine other than myself.
I know that is probably a total bummer to hear someone say, but at the same time it’s not for a lack of trying. It’s really just a long history of being consumed with other, more important things in life. Not to mention, ultimately consistently choosing the wrong men. That said I’ve come to establish a bit of a Valentine’s Day ritual of purchasing myself candy, wine, and just enjoying an expectation free day. If you don’t have expectations, no one can disappoint you, right?
But hey, sometimes you want to give yourself an extra special treat. You know to remind yourself you really don’t need anyone to validate you. So when Valentine’s Day rolls around, treat yourself to one of these special gifts.
