3 Ways to Declutter and Get Organized Right Now

As a new year begins it’s really easy to get into a headspace where it’s time to make a million different changes. I’m actually super guilty of this, and I’m also incredibly guilty of the deep spring clean. February kinda leaves me stuck in the middle, but this is the perfect time to make small little changes. Small little changes that was sustainable and can help calm the chaos of clutter. Here are 3 super easy changes you can make right now.

CREATE A ‘DROP ZONE’

If I’m guilty of one really bad habit it’s dropping stuff everywhere. Eventually the items pile up, create clutter, and just look really bad over time. I started placing decorate baskets in places where I would collect random items. Then at the end of the week or whenever it piles up, I take the basket and put things back where they belong. Not only does it keep messes more manageable, but I can also find things when I need them.

STACK AND DIVIDE

Living in an apartment, I have to maximize space as much as possible. No one likes the random collection of items that just builds and builds until overloaded with things they don’t even use anymore. I finally gave in and got stackable containers, bins, and drawers to keep things not only organized but easier to find when I need them. They are everywhere from the decorative shelf on the counter to the bigger bins under the sink holding hair styling products.

GET ACCESSIBLE

One major contributor to clutter is lack of access to put things away. This is especially true with the closet. If I can’t just go toss something up after using it, I absolutely dread putting it away, and as a result, I just…don’t. Then a cascading set of problems begins from my closet exploding to more piles of stuff on chairs. Start a basket that acts as a catch-all for not dirty but not clean clothes you plan to wear again. Items like sweatshirts and jeans can contribute to the chaos, but when placed in a special basket can be easily accessed when needed rather than rifling through piles and piles.
