MIX NO. 52 // MOODY WINTER
Today is Blue Monday. The third Monday of January is considered the most depressing and sad day of the year. To honor or at least acknowledge the occasion, I thought what better Monthly Mix than one that just has chill, moody winter vibes? As someone who struggles with some mental health issues, I can definitely be hit pretty hard by seasonal affective disorder. Yes, even despite living in a place that has immense vitamin D via sunshine. Winter can be hard. It’s cold and rainy. It always feels like it’s dark. It’s not hard to feel a little extra moody. I find that when I get sad or moody, I tend to turn towards music that suits that situation rather than happy, upbeat music that lifts up my mood. Maybe it’s because I was a particularly emo teenager. I don’t know. I just like wallowing in those moments and giving myself the freedom to feel those feelings. They are, after all, a passing cloud. The storm eventually passes. If the soundtrack is good, why not?
It goes without saying, the playlist works for so many different things. Enjoying a cup of coffee, relaxing, or working. It’s a mixture of folky and chill indie songs as well as a couple of older favorites of mine. It even has some new tunes that I’ve been saving for a mix just like this one.
