MIX NO. 21 // CLASSIC CHRISTMAS

I know there is a love/hate relationship many people have with holiday music. Some people love it. Some people hate it. But I genuinely like it. Except, when it basically starts playing on the radio in like…July. There is just something I cherish about listening to 85 covers of the same song while driving around picking up presents and baking. There is just something special about listening to these festive songs while wrapping gifts that makes it a much easier task. Even for a perfectionist like myself.

When it comes to Christmas music, I have become quite the purest. What I mean is, rather than a million pop song covers by people I’ve never heard of, I choose the channels and playlists that feature the classics. You know the ones, that are getting tons and tons of news coverage for being inappropriate and, for lack of a better word, scandalous. And while i will refrain about giving any of my own hot takes on Baby, It’s Cold Outside or Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, I will say Frosty the Snowman is pretty darn weird. I prefer, at least right now, Christmas songs that I’ve heard since I was small. All of the Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, and Brenda Lee one can handle.

When I set out to make this particular mix, I chose versions of songs I never get sick of. I also added in some jazz/instrumentals that I’ve heard while listening to Holiday Traditions on my car radio (the best holiday station. Sorry, Hallmark. I’m not buying what you’re selling!). I will go down on the record and say the Charlie Brown Christmas Album by Vince Guaraldi Trio is one of the best holiday albums ever made. And, while I rarely declare favorites in anything musically, I will officially declare it to be my favorite Christmas album. I could listen to it for hours.

So, grab a glass of mulled wine, bake some cookies, sit next to a fire, wrap some gifts, or trim a tree (this should be way done by now) and enjoy this nice seasonal mix put together with love.
