Q&A: What Is Your Skincare Routine?

Q&A

I preface this by saying I am in no way a skincare expert and I have merely figured out what “works” for me over a very long time. Up until recently, I used the very same face wash every day and that’s about it. But, I guess, there is more you’re supposed to be doing, especially as you age, so I started paying more attention to what other people were doing. And that is how we got here.

As I’ve gotten older my skin has become less and less prone to acne (although it still does rear its ugly head from time to time) so I’ve been able to give more skincare products a chance. Something I wasn’t really ready to risk with the whole breakout thing. Everything I currently use can be found at Target. Why? Well, it’s more convenient because I will ONLY ever step in Sephora if I have to (hello, poor customer service!!!). And I truly mean going ONLY if I’m sticking a brush directly into the foundation bottle to suck out what is left of it. I have tried many of the higher-priced face washes there too and found they really aren’t any different than something I can just get at Target.

It also doesn’t hurt that Target has increased its brand offerings significantly over the last year or two which means you’re no longer stuck with regular drugstore brands.

My Skincare Routine

Morning:

I spend much of my morning in the gym so I don’t want to have too much on my face causing issues. I just splash my face with cold water. When I get home is another story. This is when I use Honest cleanser to remove sweat and general grossness. 2 times a week I swap this routine with the microdermabrasion scrub (usually in the shower) and I leave it on until it tingles. Then I spray with the toner to soothe my skin. If I have time I might use the rose quartz roller. I always apply the Ex Glow-Sion moisturizer whether I wear makeup or not. It hydrates my skin and on days where I’m not wearing makeup, it leaves my skin looking lively and dewy.

Night:

At night I remove my makeup with a baby wipe. They are softer (and better budget-wise) than makeup wipes. Then I use the Versed cleansing balm to make sure I got everything off. It’s oil-based so I really only use this balm when I’ve worn makeup in order to keep my skin from getting oilier. When I don’t wear makeup I’ll just use the regular gel cleanser. I’ll spray on toner if my face feels irritated or I will use my rose quartz roller if I’ve been tightening my jaw all day (bad habits!!).
