MIX NO. 36 // SUNSET DRIVE
As I write this it’s cloudy. I’m sincerely hoping that it begins to rain or the very first monsoon of the season is about to happen. Sadly, I’m not too sure it is. The point is, this mix kinda feels moot when there is no real sunset to be had. Although, the sun could break through the clouds render a beautiful Arizona sunset. Monsoon season is, after all, mostly unpredictable.
Anyway, I love a good sunset drive. Who doesn’t? I mean it’s a real pick me up activity during a pandemic when you can only do about…a handful of things safely. I have always appreciated a drive at sunset whether I was going somewhere (remember that?!) or coming home from work. One of the joys of Arizona truly is the sunsets. There are mountains off in the distance and a lot of open desert space just on the outskirts of town to enjoy. They just set the scene so perfectly, and when I heard a few songs on this mix lately, they just fit the vibe. And a very niche playlist was born.
MIX NO. 36 is filled to the brim with synthwave, synth-pop, and chillwave tunes. Are these even words? Yes. Yes they are. All three genres have one thing in common: use of the synthesizer as a main instrument. They all utilize a lo-fi type sound that creates a retro vibe. You know what I mean..it feels kinda like being chased in horror movie or a really gritty episode of Miami Vice. Which, let’s face it, is great for a sunset drive. It kinda reminds me of that old Nintendo game Rad Racer which we had but never were good at.
So if this is your vibe like it is mine right now, enjoy!
