Interior Envy: Walk-In Closets
I don’t know if it’s living in apartments for what feels like a billion years now, but I have a serious love of walk-in closets. In smaller homes and apartments closet space is so limited and it’s more about storage. Everything just has a place and, frankly, most of the stuff just doesn’t end up fitting - or maybe that is just me. Walk-in closets are way more than just storage spaces. They are elegant spaces that feel like a sanctuary, are perfectly organized, and are the ultimate luxury for anyone who loves fashion.
Walk-in closets aren’t a new design feature. In the 17th century, small rooms connected to bedrooms were used to store linens, clothing, and other personal items. They were primarily functional and definitely didn’t have the design that today’s do. Fast forward to the 20th century, walk-in closets became luxurious dressing areas. Mainly due to the rise of high-end fashion and the desire for spacious storage, but over time they have become a need for many homeowners.
I think walk-in closets are awesome because of the storage space and the infinite possibilities for organization. Everything is much more accessible which reduces the amount of time it takes to find things or get dressed. My dream walk-in has a dressing space with the perfect lighting and full-length mirrors to help me get dressed without frustration and the ability to assess my outfit without issue. Walk-in closets are practical and offer organization, style, and a little extra luxury. They increase functionality and can always adapt to changing needs. They are definitely a touch that is absolutely irresistible, and I will be sure my next home has one…or at the very least a bedroom is about to be converted, ha.
