The Friday Five

Happy Friday! You were probably expecting a style post or at the very least a curated selection of my picks to shop from. Today though, we are taking a little break to present 5 fun stories that have caught my eye on the internet lately. Think of it as a mid-month Monthly Edit. Keep scrolling for a recipe, a colorful apartment, a special exhibition, and more!

The fashion posts will be back before you know it.

Mortadella & Dijon Tart

Everyone knows I love a good sandwich - especially an Italian sandwich. My dad made THE best Italian sub sandwich and one of the meats used was mortadella. It was just one of those sandwich meats we always had around. When I saw this recipe on Food52, I knew it had to be something I saved and made. Puff pastry, dijon mustard, mortadella, and cornichons? Sign me up.

Malibu Barbie Cafe

The photos, trailer, and tagline for the Barbie movie have taken the internet by storm. I frankly can’t wait to see this movie and I hope it is utterly unhinged (and amazing). There is nothing more iconic than Malibu Barbie and thanks to Bucket Listers, Malibu Barbie Cafe is going to be a real place. As long as you live in New York or Chicago, or can travel there, you’ll be able to visit the colorful and delicious world of Malibu Barbie. I, for one, am very jealous.

A Colorblocked Madrid Apartment

The colors of this Madrid apartment by Martín Peláez caught my eye the second it crossed my feed. I absolutely love how the base is entirely white with elements of colors that make it fun. Or as Architectural Digest puts it, an “element of funhouse magic to it.” The planes of color are made with methacrylate, mirrors, and other elements. It’s name is Project CMYK - a name that “reflects the simple language of line, color, reflection, light, and abstraction.”

The Crown to Couture exhibition at Kensington Palace

This exhibition runs from April 5th to October 29 and showcases the relationship between celebrity culture and royal fashion. The pieces included help to draw a line between the modern red carpet and centuries ago. According to Vogue, “Crown to Couture also compares, contrasts and ultimately celebrates the culture and fashion of Georgian and contemporary settings.” There are over 200 artifacts including Audrey Hepburn’s Oscars dress, a spotlight on contemporary designers like Vivienne Westwood, and even an entire room dedicated to jewelry.

The IKEA Hotel

I feel like I had heard the rumblings of an IKEA hotel many years ago. Something that, as an IKEA enthusiast, naturally excited me. I mean, it’s like one of the top 5 things about Sweden, right? This hotel is located in the tiny town of Almhult and also happens to be the world’s first IKEA store. The hotel is made of 254 rooms all designed with interior furnishings from IKEA. The hotel opened in 1960s after IKEA’s founder visited a roadside motel in the US. Just like with IKEA, the premise of volume over price remains true and a stay for a family runs around $82 dollars a night.
