Interior Envy: Merry Mantels
The holidays usher in a season of warmth and a dose of cheer. One thing I’ve always loved about decorating is the mantel. Whether you have a more traditional decor style or a more modern one, the mantel is just one of those features you can really get into. The mantel is a focal point and a focal point that is just waiting for a creative touch. As I’ve gotten older I’ve shifted more from the classic and traditional stockings hung by the chimney with care approach to a more modern aesthetic. There is something about using modern elements that helps to transform the mantel into a stylish centerpiece that exudes both elegance and holiday spirit.
The key to the perfect holiday mantel is to embrace simplicity and minimalism by selecting a few statement pieces that align with the modern theme. Opt for sleek metallic candle holders, geometric-shaped vases, or minimalist sculptures. Consider incorporating asymmetrical elements to add visual interest and break away from conventional symmetry - think the craziest interpretations of Christmas trees.
Experiment with a monochromatic color palette or choose a limited range of complementary colors for a cohesive look. Shades of gold, silver, and matte black can evoke a sophisticated ambiance while maintaining a contemporary feel. Introduce texture through faux fur stockings or a metallic garland to add depth to the display. I am continuously obsessed with CB2’s holiday collections. Last year was marble and this year they have incredible shades of champagne and rose gold which gives a twist to the traditional greenery. Lastly, lighting plays a crucial role in setting the ambiance. Experiment with soft LED string lights or modern, understated fairy lights intertwined with your display to cast a warm and inviting glow.
I’ve been on the hunt for inspiration for decorating my mantel this holiday season. I didn’t want to put too much effort into decorating (for personal reasons) so I was drawn to minimal, simple, clean but beautiful mantels. So I thought I would do a little inspiration post with a bunch of ones that caught my eye and got me inspired plus a few pieces you can shop to get the look.
