Things I Tried and Loved in May

Hello my friends and welcome to another edition of Things I Tried and Loved. In May I celebrated my birthday, took a trip to Denver, and started to jump into the summer season. Keep scrolling to see the show I binge-watched, a place to visit if you’re around town, a yummy treat, and some summer style purchases I’ve loved recently.

CROCHET CROP TOP

H&M, $25

I ordered this on a whim for my birthday and I was pleasantly surprised by cute it is. It’s the perfect summer crop top that embraces the crochet trend and looks good with everything from shorts to jeans. There are even matching pants for a good summer set - great for vacation!

PINOT GRIGIO

Ciao Bella, $13

I do love a good pinot grigio every now and then, but one with a gorgeous bottle like this one is even better. I saw this one while browsing for a pasta dinner I was cooking and it immediately caught my eye. Turns out it was absolutely worth the impulse choice. It’s dry and has aromatic notes of “green apple, apricot, and a hint of honey on the palate.” Need I say more?

ANGELYNE

Streaming on Peacock

When I first saw they were making a streaming series about the iconic Angelyne, I was both excited and then slightly skeptical. Then it hit the platform and I binge-watched it over an entire day. I just couldn’t stop. Angelyne is incredibly fascinating and while watching I just desperately wanted to know what was true and what was closer to fiction - but with the subject being so mysterious, who knows. If you don't know anything about Angelyne (uh, what?) then you’re not likely to enjoy this but if you give it a chance, you’ll be quite entertained.

FLOOR 13 ROOFTOP BAR

15 E Monroe St, Phoenix

We visited Floor 13 to kick off my birthday celebrations this year and I didn’t know what to expect. It’s such a chill spot in the middle of downtown on the roof of a hotel. The hotel was featured in the opening of Psycho so there are Hitchcock memorabilia and Psycho-themed decor scattered throughout the bar and the lobby. The lobby of the hotel has a spectacular art-deco style and the elevator up to the bar is just the right amount of spooky. The cocktails are delicious and if you head up there right as the sun sets, you’re in for a real treat. Head here before it gets too hot or their seasonal hours change.

GOOD ‘90S SHORT

Good American, $129

As a girl with hips and thighs on the larger size, shorts can truly be the bane of my existence but boy do I regret sleeping on Good American for this long. Their claim of being perfect for any size is absolutely true. These shorts fit like a dream and look good too. They aren’t too tight, too short, and aren’t uncomfortable. They will definitely be my go-to shorts for the summer.

KENDRICK LAMAR’S MR. MORALE & THE BIG STEPPERS

Streaming on Spotify

This album was my in-flight entertainment on my trip to Denver and I was not disappointed. From that very first track I was hooked. It was well worth the wait. I’m no music reviewer so I don’t have much to say in the way of that and surely you’ll find people who can but what I will say is - if you want something new to listen to, start here.

MILK CHOCOLATE COVERED CRANBERRIES

Temper, $5

I love a good airport find and these chocolate covered cranberries were my latest discovery - and they didn’t even come from a magazine stand/shop! While waiting for my flight home we popped into the Denver Central Market and these caught my eye while ordering. I had to get them and they are insanely delicious. Just sweet and tart enough to be the perfect bite.

SHAVE SYRUP

Brazilian Bare, $13

I got this on a whim because I was sick of my usual shaving cream and it promised a super close shave for the whole body - which is pretty essential during the summer. It works way better than I thought it would. It doesn’t clog razors, it smells incredible, and helps to prevent the nasty parts of shaving like ingrown hairs and bumps.
