Sunday Style Profile: Jane Birkin
It feels like ages since I’ve done a Sunday Style Profile, and I thought why not do one of my favorite stylish women, Jane Birkin. Jane Birkin is a British-born actress, singer, and muse whose 1960s and 1970s style continue to inspire today. She became an icon of French Style after moving to France after suffering heartbreak and subsequently meeting Serge Gainsbourg, the love of her life. You may best know her as the namesake of the Hermés bag which was created after she mentioned to an executive on an airplane she always had a tough time finding the perfect carryall.
Her style has left its mark for being a mixture of bohemian, feminine, and impossibly chic. Whether pictured at home with a comfortable pair of white jeans or carrying around her iconic basket bag, Jane always made a statement. Her style always appeared to be young, fresh, and above all simple. The perfect mixture of casualness and sexiness. She wasn’t afraid to be provocative which inevitably left its mark on culture and style alike. Even in her later years, her style remained chic, elegant, and graceful. She even was the face of Saint Laurent in a 2016 campaign. Many of her outfits still translate today and are a large part of the French girl style lexicon. I would easily replicate any of these looks any day of the week.
