MIX NO. 51 // COOL YULE + THE HOLIDAY PLAYLIST COLLECTION!
Ah, the humble Holiday Monthly Mix. A yearly tradition that keeps on giving. It’s probably my second favorite mix of the year just behind Halloween. I love everything about the season. All of the celebrations and champagne. Seeing family and friends - the whole nine yards. I have a soft spot for Christmas music in my heart. I know some people don’t like it, but to me, it sets the tone for the whole season and even makes me feel a bit happier when I’m feeling low. My favorites are the classics. I listen to Holiday Traditions on SiriusXM all season long in the car or at home. There are some more modern ones that I love, as you can see all over the Holiday Playlist Collection, but there is something about the classics and jazz that I just love so much. They make me want to enjoy a hot drink while browsing a shopping center filled with bustling people and decorated to the nines - as cliche as that may be. I love the hustle and bustle. But another reason I love the classics is how weird they can be. You show up to my house demanding a figgy pudding when I didn’t invite you over -you just showed up at my door…singing? Did you really bring some corn for popping? Making an extra job for me, your host? You couldn’t have done this before coming? And let’s not forget the whole Baby It’s Cold Outside situation…
Over the years I’ve made more holiday mixes than I can count whether for gifts, this blog, or just for myself. I’m sure there are half a million burned CDs floating around out there with my carefully curated mix of songs. But since the days of the physical mix cd are gone, we will have to make do with whatever I was able to save and move to Spotify. This year’s mix is a longer one with jazz, some classics, some new songs, and a few of my personal favorites. If it doesn’t float your boat, you are in luck.
