Looking Forward to Fall...Trends

Full disclosure: As I sit down to write this, it’s about 100 degrees out. Still. I have a bit of a complicated relationship with fall. Basic as I may be, I love fall. It’s not sweltering outside anymore and I can finally wear 75% of my closet with confidence. Although, who doesn’t love being the weirdo wearing a baggy sweater in August?

But I digress. My inbox has been overloaded with tons and tons of emails about fall fashion, fall candles, fall recipes…and the news of the PSL’s grand return (still haven’t had one!). So I figured why not get on the highly anticipated bandwagon and look ahead to fall. Maybe, in some strange way, I can use some wishful thinking to finally arrive at cooler temperatures. Not to mention appropriate PSL weather and I can finally start making every comfort food I can think of. Hot Girl Summer has to end sometime, right?

Oh right, this is about style, not mac and cheese. My bad. I truly do love fall style. I like upgrading my yearly basics and sometimes even trying new things. It’s the most exciting season. Whether you embrace all the new trends or you just stick to what you know (and love) surely, you’ll end up wearing at least one of these things over the next few months.

Leather

This isn’t your typical leather jacket. Leather is being found on just about everything from shirts to pants, boots and more. Of course, I can’t think of a use for a leather effect shirt or blouse so I’m gonna stick with the classics. If it isn’t broke, why fix it?

Belted Blazers

Taking the blazer up a notch and making it almost…coat like. It’s polished and cinches the waist in all of the right ways no matter what you’re wearing. Belted blazers are going to be everywhere. You don’t even have to buy anything new. Just add a belt whether it’s small or chunky and you’ve got it made.

Checks + Plaid

Whether you’re into checks or more into plaid, this pattern is synonymous with fall. It’s like when people say florals are associated with spring. Like…duh. Luckily, houndstooth, plaid, checks, whatever you choose is a trend that can be worn by everyone.

Trench Coats

Trench coats are an iconic, timeless wardrobe staple. This seems to come up no matter what seasonal trends may be and this is because you just genuinely can’t go wrong with a classic trench coat.

Period Pieces

Victorian-era patterns are a thing. It’s your chance to dress like Samantha from the American Girl series and go to town. High necklines, romantic sleeves, ruffles..the whole nine yards. Pair with your latest denim for an easy go-to feminine look.

Animal Prints

The animal print trend extends beyond the leopard print this year. It seems snakeskin, zebra, and even tiger are becoming more prevalent. Whichever you’re drawn to more I suppose.
