Meg Ryan: Fall Style Icon
Not only is Meg Ryan the queen of 90s rom-coms, but she is a style icon. Not only style but perfect fall style. It is classic and chic. It is the perfect combination of sweaters, tights, and coats. The movies hold a special place in my heart and so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to talk about her style.
Even though I was young in the 90s, I still loved everything about her style. It felt like she was a lady who had things together despite many of the characters she played being “lost.” You know, a regular trope for romantic comedies. I really love that as an adult many of her character’s looks can fit seamlessly into a modern wardrobe and be relatively on trend too. There is something to be said for fall staples like loose-fitting dress pants, jeans, tops without cleavage, and knit sweaters of all types.
You’ve Got Mail
While it can be considered somewhat problematic in 2019, You’ve Got Mail is still one of my favorite movies. Throughout the film, Kathleen Kelly wears classic silhouettes and tons of neutral colors. Layering is absolutely crucial when it comes to fall and Kathleen Kelly is a master at chic layering and matching separates.
When Harry Met Sally
When Harry Met Sally takes place over 12 years which gives a lot of options when it comes to outfits. There is such a variation from contemporary to vintage. Many of Sally’s looks have pieces that are on-trend for today like box bags and belts meanwhile others are fall staples like ankle boots.
Sleepless In Seattle
Okay, so technically Sleepless in Seattle begins at Christmastime not fall. But Annie’s looks shouldn’t be entirely discounted as great fall outfits. She wears trench raincoats that are not at all frumpy. Who could forget that iconic Empire State Building scene with the floral scarf? She has a more professional woman style in this film than the others so not all her outfits translate to 2019. There is one thing you can bring into fall: loungewear.
