Fashion Trends I’m Skipping This Season

IMAGE

With each new season comes a slew of new trends. Fall fashion always tends to bring a mix of cozy, chic, and sometimes…questionable trends. While I love my “eras,” phases, and experimenting, but this year there are just some trends that don’t align with my vibe. Maybe they don’t fit with my personal aesthetic. Maybe they feel impractical or simply don’t spark joy.

Passing on trends doesn’t mean you’re not fashionable, just like hating things doesn’t make you cool. It means you’re refining your style and choosing pieces that genuinely work for you. Fashion and style are all about having fun, but it’s also important to curate a wardrobe that feels authentic and effortless. But, like I said, with a slew of new trends, where some don’t work, others do. Below are just a few of the trends I just can’t do with this fall. So keep scrolling to see which trends I’m giving a pass and why they didn’t make the cut.

Studs

Don’t get me wrong - studs had their moment. But this season’s revival of heavily studded boots, jackets, and accessories feels a bit too shopping at Hot Topic circa 2003. While I appreciate the subtle nod to edgy style, the metal embellishment overload doesn’t align with my love for more sleek, polished looks. It’s definitely not for any one whose a lover of minimalism or clean lines. That said, there are subtle ways that can still look good. Frankly, I’d rather just invest in accessories with subtle metallic details like a sleek gold chain.

Wide-Leg Pants

Wide-leg pants are loved by many, but for me, they are a bit overwhelming. Mainly because I just don’t have the body type for them. It’s a huge bummer to look at all of these cool outfits with a ton of volume and style and just not be able to participate. I don’t look tall with great legs. I end up looking like I time traveled from 1999 - and not in a good way. Similar to a lot of other times, I’ll have to stick with my tailored cigarette trousers and straight-leg jeans that offer structure rather than extra fabric and drama.

Barn Coats

While the barn coat has rustic charm and screams countryside vibes, there is nothing about me that screams rustic or countryside. As functional as it might be, the oversized, utilitarian aesthetic just doesn’t go with my standard chic, classic looking outfits. And being city-bound, and not just city bound - desert bound, it just doesn’t fit the vibe. It’s not bringing any vibes to the function. I think I’ll be sticking with trench coats or my standard go-to leather jacket.

Boho Anything

Boho always seems to find it’s way back into trends, but this fall’s take on flowy dresses, fringe, and over-the-top prints just doesn’t hit the spot. It’s along with indie sleaze, just something I want to let live back where it was. It’s true, I adore some elements of boho (hello crochet and lace details!), but going full head-to-toe looks and feels too costume-y. I look more Little House on the Prairie less free wheeling 70s rock n’ roll muse.

Animal Print

Sure, animal print is considered a neutral by many. And those people are likely much more cool than me. This season’s resurgence of bold leopard, tiger, and even zebra prints just feels not my vibe. It’s honestly hard to embrace such a loud pattern in a way that doesn’t feel cheesy or dated. Animal print is just one of those things that looks better, on me, in theory rather than in practice. Sadly, I have to stick with the usual fall staples - houndstooth or plaid. Both of which are classic and have a timeless appeal.
