6 Essentials for Nailing Transitional Dressing

Transitional or trans-seasonal dressing can be hard. It’s some of the most awkward times of the year when it comes to picking out an outfit. You need to pick just the right layers or pieces to be warm in the morning and to cool off as the afternoon sets in. It can almost be painful. All the years I spent heading to early classes or the office with a nice jacket only to leave the building a few hours later sweating to high heavens. Nothing ruins a good outfit like moments like this. Everyone has those trusty pieces they grab. The iconic, seasonal go-to’s that really bring things together. For example, my leather jacket. I want to wear it constantly because it levels up my outfits and makes them just that much more stylish not to mention cool. However, Arizona’s desert climate doesn’t love my leather jacket back. So what exactly am I getting at?

Dressing for the in-between parts of the seasons can be hard and pretty annoying. Thankfully there are a few items that can get you through these awkward times yet keep it stylish at the same time. The wardrobe warriors that have been making the rounds this summer mixed with some closet classics.

BOMBER JACKETS

Bomber jackets tend to come in and out of style periodically, but they have become a must-have for the most part because of their potential. With all the different types it’s easy to find one perfect for layering. They can be dressed up or down and because of their flight jacket origins just make any outfit a little bit cooler.

OVERSIZED BLAZER

The blazer is a wardrobe essential, but right now I am loving the oversized variety. The silhouettes it creates when paired with the items just look so cool. I love how they can be worn with jeans, dresses, or even the most laid-back activewear. They are a great transitional staple because of their usefulness. They can be worn to the office or even to brunch as a great, effective layering piece.

CREWNECK SWEATERS

The crewneck sweater is one of the most hard-working items in any wardrobe. Whether you stick with the classics or change things up with brighter colors and patterns, you can get a lot of wear out of the crewneck. It can be layered over a t-shirt, thrown over your shoulders for a preppy look, or worn half-tucked into a pair of jeans (my personal favorite). It really takes casual dressing up a notch by making it more effortlessly chic. It will be a piece you grab plenty of times!

LOAFERS

Just as with bomber jackets, boots, and even crewnecks, the styles and colors may change, but they remain a fundamental go-to. Loafers have been part of every chic girl’s wardrobe for a while now. But lately, the lug sole and platform ones have really started to steal the show. The loafer is great because it has the feeling of a dress shoe but can easily be slipped on. They can be paired with knit dresses and maxi skirts and they can bring you from casual to more formal just like that.

WIDE-LEG PANTS

I for one can admit I am obsessed with wide-leg pants even if they are a bit difficult on my body type. I am just in love with the look of them. They are just as wearable as jeans but add a little something extra you probably didn’t even know you need. They add a little extra volume to your look and can even body-sculpt when done right - aka fitted more at the waist. What makes wide leg pants so exciting is being able to match them with tighter tops to create exaggerated proportions, more loose tops for accentuating the look, or even a vest or blazer for some classic suiting.

WHITE TANK TOPS

A classic white tank top has been a staple all summer long. I think it makes a good transitional piece because of its layering ability. It makes a really good option as a base. In fact, it’s probably one of my favorite bases, to begin with. I love to pair it with a more baggy sweater or just toss on a light jacket to really make a classic but chic outfit. A good white tank top can go with anything from mini skirts to jeans. It will be a staple you can wear into fall with no problem or even thought.
