Amazon Home Office Finds That Changed My WFH Game
I have not only worked from home for most of my career, but I also attended many classes in college online (a better learning environment). So you’d think I was a pretty darn good expert at it by now. Alas, I am not. I have been prone to working from my bed, couch, or kitchen table on the regular which can sometimes be too comfortable OR completely hinder focus entirely. This year I made it a huge goal of mine to not only increase productivity but also the quality of my output. How did I plan to do this exactly? By using my darn desk. You know, the giant table-looking thing in the corner of the room that somehow has tons of pens, post-it notes, and has become a catch-all? Yeah, that thing.
I finally dusted my desk off, threw a bunch of needless garbage away, grabbed some functional office supplies on Amazon, and got to work. Not only does my desk look chic and organized, but it has made my work day so much easier. I can focus more now. I don’t get overwhelmed and stressed out. Most importantly, I don’t struggle with trying to manage so much with tons of chaos around me. Okay, and my eyes and neck don’t hurt as much. You got me. ANYWAY here are 7 items I got off Amazon that has completely changed the way I work from home.
ACRYLIC MONITOR STAND
$29
I truly don’t know why it took me so long to get a monitor stand. Maybe because for the longest time I utterly refused to even use my second monitor and would rather sit there frustrated trying to use tons of different windows on one tiny screen while simultaneously hurting my neck? Anyway, I’m glad I gave in and got this stand. Not only does it fit my aesthetic but it raises my monitor to the perfect eye level which means no more straining. It’s made me much more efficient and it’s high enough I can store little odds and ends like post-it notes and my keyboard underneath it.
ALUMINUM MOUSE PAD
$13
My old mouse pad was one I took when I left my first office job many years back. It was uncomfortable and not at all pleasing to look at. Rather than use that ugly, old thing or resort to scraping my mouse across my desk for hours on end, I got this chic mouse pad. It’s metal so the mouse glides along it relatively easily and it comes in a few other colors to fit any office vibe.
CABLE CLIPS
$6
I cannot stand messy cords and with devices, there are always tons of chords…everywhere. These are incredible and I didn’t even know I needed them until I saw them. They have adhesive backings that you can remove to stick to the underside of desks, onto walls, or even the desktop itself. The cords easily pop or slide into the sockets and help keep everything organized. I now know my computer cord isn’t going to knock 45 things off my desk AND there is no longer a need to ugly twist tie everything together.
DUAL-SIDE LEATHER DESK MAT
$14
This was an impulse buy I’m pretty happy I made. It makes my desk a little more exciting and it reminds me of my grandfather’s desk - except with a really chic, cool update. I like that it’s reversible so I can change things up whenever I want and it protects my desk. That feels odd to say, but with the wear and tear of everyday life you just never know. It also works really well if you don’t have a mouse pad. It adds comfort to working at a desk instead of resting wrists against a hard surface all day. The desk mat is cleaned with a simple rag. This is one impulse buy I can get behind.
ALUMINUM CELL PHONE STAND
$8
A few posts back I wrote about how I stay focused while working from home and this phone stand is one of my secret weapons. On days when I really can’t have distractions, I place the stand across the room in my view. That way if something important happens I can see it. On other days I leave it on my desk behind my laptop to see notifications as they come in. I love that it holds my phone in the right position so that I can still use it on the stand for quick checks. It securely holds my phone and it even has an open space at the bottom if you want to use it to hold a charger.
MUG WARMER
$29
It’s probably not surprising I’m one of those people who makes tea or coffee, puts it down, gets heavily involved in something and when I return have a cold drink I don’t want to bother with. My life was forever changed when I was recommended a mug warmer by chic office girlies on TikTok. I have not had an unintentional cold drink since. It was well worth the purchase and I like how it is “smart” and intuitive. It only turns on when the weight of a mug is present which means I don’t have to worry about turning anything off or panicking that I may or may not have. Warm drinks on demand with no hassle? 10/10.
ALUMINUM LAPTOP STAND
$29
This is one of the very first WFH office additions I purchased and it was mainly an attempt to bring my laptop to eye level when I wasn’t bothering to work at my desk. Needless to say, it works both at my desk and not at my desk for keeping my computer at eye level so there is no straining. I can see much easier and it helps lift things off the surface of my desk. I need to be able to use my desk for jotting down quick notes or using my keyboard. Having extra clutter is no Bueno. I still love this laptop stand and it’s going strong years later.
