If there is one item I’ve seen cross my feed almost constantly, it’s the perfect crisp and stylish oversized button-down shirt. Honestly, I get it. I even reach for my own time and time again. Oversized button-downs are cool, effortless, and reliable. They are one of the only low-key basics that are classic and still fresh at the same time. Right now you can get one in just about any trendy color you can think of extending them far beyond their white and typical stripe options. Another pro-oversized button-down point is they fit in with the current coastal grandmother aesthetic that is everywhere this summer! The button-down isn’t a new thing. Like I said it’s a classic and has been a staple of J. Crew since preppy was aspirational. When I started working in an office it was my business casual favorite with trousers or even jeans. But this season we are going bigger and more oversized. Sure, a tailored fit is chic and works, but now there are even more fits and colors. What I love about oversized button-downs is they are accessible for everyone of every different style type. They aren’t uncomfortable and they can be worn with just about everything from the pool to activewear. Oversized button-downs compliment many of the existing items in one’s closet from slip dresses to jean shorts. I love to wear mine buttoned up with a french tuck or loose over something else.
