The Coolest 2022 Home Decor Trends

While there are things I love about my little apartment, I would love to own a home and design it until my heart is content. Unfortunately, that doesn’t really seem to be in the cards for me - or anyone else really - at this moment in time. But that doesn’t stop me from endlessly scrolling Reels, TikTok, and websites for design and interiors. I love seeing how people curate their spaces and make their houses into homes. Over the past couple years we have all slowed down a bit and while we are starting to pick up speed again, we haven’t exactly lost the desire to create spaces that reflect ourselves, how we are feeling, and are places we want to spend a lot of our time. Spaces influence and create energy. This is why the colors, textures, and pieces we choose are so important.

While browsing many home trends came through my feeds and a lot of them are about curating a calm, comfortable, and beautiful space. They embrace more natural surfaces, textures, colors, and accents. Here are a few of my favorites.

Curved Furniture

Anyone who knows me, knows I’m the first to jump at furniture that is ultra-modern and has straight lines. But in 2022, furniture is getting curvy. Curvy furniture looks cool. It makes a statement and is artwork all on its own. The curves are soft, sculptural, and make things a little bit cozier. How could you not want to be swallowed up into a sofa that floats like a cloud? It also helps utilize spaces better and looks friendly, welcoming, and inviting.

Art Deco Details

Art Deco is bold. A style that originated in the 1920s is full of hard edges and rich, embellished designs, and shiny metal accents. It has taken over in a big way recently. It’s pushed mid-century modern to the wayside and can be done with decor pieces or even couches and cabinets.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper has had a renaissance in the past few years. It has allowed homeowners to create a special space without much effort since technology and manufacturing methods have change the way it is applied and removed. While we may be making spaces much cozier, wallpaper let’s people get playful and show their personality.

Plush Textures

Plush texture is one trend I can get behind. I love a good fuzzy or sherpa anything. Texture helps make a space feel cozier not to mention comfortable. The more plush the better in this case, but luckily if you’re not daring enough to take on a giant rug or new chair, a simple throw blanket can do the trick.

Home Bars

Having a built in home bar was once the norm. My grandparents had one when I was growing up and while it didn’t get much use at that point, it was a cool design feature especially for people who love entertaining. With all of the time spent at home, we started to divide up spaces or make flex spaces that served more functions that one. Home bars, however, allow for and encourage entertaining. Who doesn’t want to have a way cool bar set up right now? Dry, wet, built in, or just a cart - whatever works.

Nature-Inspired Colors

Neutrals and nature-inspired colors are here to stay. Whether you love them because you spend more time outdoors lately or just like how calming they can be, this year' it’s all about bringing those elements and colors inside. Colors like green, brown, blue, beige, and cloudy white. Green and bark brown are two of the most popular options. With green, there are many different shades to choose from making it the most versatile hue of them all.
