4 Spring Trends I Actually Embraced

For many years I always felt jealous of girls on Instagram, Pinterest, and fashion blogs because they always seemed to have the perfect outfits with the coolest trends of the moment. I still get jealous from time to time because that is the world we live in now and my bank account doesn’t necessarily love how much I love to participate in retail therapy. But that said, there has always been on principle I’ve had when it comes to shopping: Is it realistic and how much use can I get out of it. This is important to me because while I love buying a new outfit for every possible occasion, I love outfits I can get tons of use out of. So what does this have to do with spring trends?

Well, I have been aiming to step a little outside my comfort zone while shopping for new season additions to my closet and put a little more effort into my outfits. Look I love a good top and jeans because it doesn’t require as much confidence as other outfits, but this year my goal is to fake it till I make it. Here are the 4 trends I latched onto the most so far this season.

Matching Sets

Matching sets are literally everywhere and there are million different kinds. I’ve been loving the more loungewear-inspired ones because they are comfortable working in, relaxing in, and even enjoying eating al fresco outside. There are so many cute matching short/top, skirt/top, and pant/top styles that I really want to try too. You can’t go wrong with a matching set because there is one for every type of personal style not to mention every occasion and mood.

Leather Separates

I know, I know leather is a classic and a wardrobe staple. I also know the frequency with which I wear a leather jacket. But this season I branched out to try other faux leather pieces like tops, skirts, shorts, and even a dress. Faux leather, when done right, is just one of those items that look and feel cool. It can be edgy, sexy, or just make a statement all on its own.

Bubblegum Pink

This might be one, if not the, most out-of-the-box spring trend I added to my closet since it’s, well, bright pink. My wardrobe is mostly made of monochromatic colors and neutrals, so this bright exciting addition was pretty exciting. I chose to incorporate bubblegum pink through a pretty midi sundress, but the best part about the color is there is more than one way to wear it. You can add it to your clothing with pops of color, bright accessories, or dive right into a full saturation of pinks in one outfit.

Knit Vests

The dark horse of the spring trends: a preppy sweater vest. This dad/grandpa trend was everywhere over the fall and carried over into the spring. I like pairing mine with jeans or a cool pair of high-waisted shorts, but there are so many different ways to style them whether you get an oversized one or go for a preppy 90s school uniform-looking one. I am truly envious of anyone who can simply wear theirs with an oversized white button-up and boots.
