All About Those Layers
I don’t think I fully appreciated the art of layering until this year after having to go back to daily walks outside in the freezing cold. I recall a few times putting together outfits I loved that had the best combination of style and function. But I truly never appreciated the art that goes into picking the right pieces to create the look I’m going for. Now, this winter my style has gone from 0 to 100 with the layering and not just on my daily ice walks.
Layering is a style skill everyone should have mastered. It is really tempting to just toss on an oversized coat and call it a day. Trust me, that is pretty much what I’ve been doing for years and still do some days. While there aren’t necessarily “rules” to layering, it’s important to not focus on how many layers there are. Instead, look at the quality of the items being worn. Remember, as time goes on and it’s all about shedding those layers. I certainly don’t want to be carrying around a billion unnecessary things by 2 pm. Play with different textures, heights, and how your outfit will look once you are indoors or warming and losing layers. It’s not only about being warm but looking and feeling good too.
With all of that in mind, here are 4 of my current favorite layering outfits for some winter layering style inspiration.
