My Summer Reading List

Every summer I optimistically set out to read more. When I was a kid, I excelled at reading. My parents proudly saved my giant bookworm chains from elementary school and I always had way too many coupons for Pizza Hut personal pan pizzas (the reward for reading x number of books at the time). But now with the internet, I find myself reading less and endlessly scrolling more and more. When the internet (and life) begin to feel overwhelming, I would always choose a book to escape into. Sometimes the books were lame and other times they were classics that I've read 6,000 times. This is why I started making reading lists every summer. Kinda like the game, I would play at the public library as a kid except there are no prizes this time. Now I use this list as a way to remove myself from technology for a bit. Of course, sometimes that is hard because, well, e-books are sometimes more budget (and space) friendly.

The books below are the ones on my summer 2018 list. There are novels, memoirs, and one business book because I just can't resist the chance to learn something new. I think people are genuinely surprised I haven't read I'll Be Gone in the Dark yet and sometimes I'm even surprised myself. But rather than explain why I want to read each book, I'll leave little synopsis snippets to tickle your fancy. It's already June so I better get started reading...

The Rules Do Not Apply - Ariel Levy: A memoir about love, loss, and finding their way through all of it.

Marketing in the #FakeNews Era - Peter Horst: Guidance for managing and protecting a brand in a more difficult, polarizing marketplace.

The Music Shop - Rachel Joyce: A new High Fidelity featuring love, loss, and the healing power of music.

You Think It, I'll Say It - Curtis Sittenfeld: A series of short stories about questionable decisions, missed connections, and coincidences. (A selection of Reese Witherspoon's book club, because I guess that's a thing?)
