Songs of Summer's Past
Happy Memorial Day fellow Americans. It's the unofficial start to summer and that gave me an idea. There has always been a "song of the summer" every year since they began tracking songs way back in 1959. The Song of the Summer is chosen every year based on chart performance data. Usually, by the 3 or so week of summer, the song is usually apparent whether we like it or not. Just think about how many times Despacito was played last year. Of course, throughout nearly 60 years of keeping track, there have been good ones, bad ones, and annoying ones.
So just for fun, I perused the Billboard data to find out the ghosts of summer's past. Like I said, all the good ones, bad ones, and everything in between. Even some that we wish we could forget about. I chose the ones I thought were the best and worth actually remembering. There are classics from the Doors, the Beach Boys, and the Stones plus some pop hits from Beyoncé and Rihanna. The true key to a summer song is a memorable song that gets imprinted in the mind's of the world from now to Labor Day. I'm a bit scared what 2018's will be, but there are plenty of articles trying to guess (or suggest) what I should be.
So why am I writing this? Well, I made a playlist featuring some of the best ones. The ones that are completely worth the time. Perfect for adding a little nostalgia to your BBQ or just for having a little fun exploring.
