In the Kitchen: Thanksgiving, Volume 2

Happy (early) Thanksgiving fellow Americans, and just a happy Wednesday to everyone else! Thanksgiving is a blessing and a curse for someone who loves being in the kitchen. I love cooking and creating things that eventually satisfy others. It's a gigantic labor of love. I've been making Thanksgiving dinner (among other holiday dinners) by myself for roughly 12 years now. Looking back, it was quite the task for a teenager to take on, but it's really given me a chance to see what works. But what does this have to do with music, right?

Well with the long periods of time I spend in the kitchen, I must have music to accompany me. A few years ago I created a mix for my Thanksgiving prep and just something to have playing while people hang out. These mixes differ from my usual mixes in that they include jazz music. There's something about this time of year, and when I cook in general, that just says jazz to me. This time I decided to mix some "on theme" songs about Thanksgiving related things (like being thankful and mashed potatoes), and some other mood fitting songs. It even ends (as it should) with a Christmas song because, in my world, when the Thanksgiving dishes are being done, Christmas music is officially allowed.

Jazz is really hit or miss with people, but I think this playlist is just a really great mix of songs. Even if you're not celebrating Thanksgiving, it's quite a great mix for spending any amount of time in the kitchen (especially on a chilly night).
