Mix 09: White Hot Summer + Labor Day Playlist Extravaganza
It's time to say au revoir to summer. Well kind of anyway. Seasonal playlists are my favorite to make because they can soundtrack certain events, holidays, or even days. They can evoke sentiment years later when we stumble upon them or just songs that remind of us times gone by. That sounds pretty eloquent, but I can't tell you how many times I hear Yeah! by Usher and remember the summer of 2004 (for better or worse). Summer just has a much happier vibe to it and playlists really reflect that. Playlists also offer us an escape from the radio (aka hearing Despacito for the 6,000,001th time). There's so many different playlists to make for summer. Ones to soundtrack BBQs, road trips, and even floating around the pool doing absolutely nothing.
I decided, despite making three others over the summer, I would make one last monthly playlist summer themed just in time for Labor Day. I named it White Hot Summer because I heard someone say that once and it's always randomly popped into my head from time to time. So why not? The playlist is a mixture of some more well-known songs (the crowdpleasers) and others are indie gems. There's even some you could consider modern day "yacht rock" if you wanted to. I included two classic songs (by The Rolling Stones and Looking Glass) which always feel summery to me. Gimme Shelter is a song I hear a lot on my commute home when the sun is beating down on me. Brandy by Looking Glass is just one of those 1970s soft rock jams I love so much. I just want to relax, have a beer, and just watch a sunset (I have done this before on the lake).
That said I think it's a really good mix for the upcoming weekend. But like the title of this blog post says; it's a Labor Day Playlist Extravaganza. SO I've collected a bunch of summer playlists I've made over the years. Lots of different themes and songs to choose from so hopefully something tickles your fancy.
