Mix 08 Summer Take 2
Gather round boys and girls it's time for another monthly playlist. Summer is probably one of the easiest times to make mixes. They just kind of write themselves. There's always something playing that sticks with me and creates a memory for years to come. Whether it's enjoying a nice meal with friends at a restaurant or just simply driving in the car when something funny happens, a memory has the ability to stick to these songs like glue (for better or worse). Rather than zone in on a particular summery theme like pool parties, BBQs, or road trips, I decided to try something a little different.
I. listened. to. the. radio. GASP I know. A rarity in a world full of AUX chord capable cars, right? To be honest I play a little game with myself over summer to try to guess what the Songs of the Summer will be. If people don't know, there are a select number of songs that get continuous airplay and, through music media, become labeled official songs of summer. Just do a quick Google search and you can find them for just about any year since the 1950s (I think?). Sure, it's not a difficult task to guess what they could be. It's only a three-month long cycle of the same 5 songs over and over, right? Well, there's always new releases, dark horses, and songs just happen to fade away more quickly than they used to. Here one minute and gone the next. This playlist is a little bit inspired by my dorky little game which means it contains, drumroll please, POP MUSIC!
Yes, I rarely make a mix filled to the brim with this much pop music. Don't get too excited. There's still a few indie cuts or other songs I like in there just to keep my own sanity while listening to the mix, but they are also songs everyone should know about. I think a couple of these pop songs are contenders for those songs of the summer lists, but I won't say which because there's no fun in that. Summer isn't over yet. So please enjoy the playlist which hopefully caters a bit more towards a wider audience of people who may be reading this.
